Spell Orbs for Mages?

On a adventure into the depths of the forums at WoW europe i was looking at the mage class and stumbled upon a intresting post about "Spell Orbs". The thread explained how they should look (similair to the one Kael'Thas walks around with) and a explanation of the effect of the 3 different kind of orbs. The idea seemed awesome and would be a nice touch to the mage class adding some more magic into the mage class.

Graphics:

The orb idea is based on the orbs Kael'Thas wears in Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne. Its 3 orbs that leaves - Like a fireball - a short trail of flames in the air where they pass. If there were to be adopted into World Of Warcraft the maker of this idea had in mind that the Fire elemental orbs should be a Red/Orange - Flaming colour - alike leaving a trail in the air same way as a fireball. The Frost Elemental Orbs should be ice blue and leave a trail in the air like the Frostbolt does when cast. The Arcane one should be purple similair to the arcane missilies in Looks and the trail it leaves.

Abilities:

You gain the ability to summon orbs at level 80 as a mage. You'll have to complete a quest chain that will include both PvE and PvP content (But do able for any mage at level 80). When you complete the quest chain you'll be given 3 options of orb choice.

The following explantion of abilities is based on my own idea of how the orbs should work and is not 100% the same as the original idea by Zhantora 70 Mage Al'akir

Fire Elemental Orbs

The ability you'll learn is to summon 3 Fire Orbs flying around your chest & head. The orbs will grant you a passive buff giving you:


  • 5% damage increase to all fire spells
  • 3% critical strike chance increase to all fire spells
You will have the ability to absorb 1 of the 3 orbs every minute. Consuming the orb will grant you a buff boosting the usuall effect of your orbs.
  • 10% Damage increase to all fire spells
  • 5% critical strike chance increase to all fire spells
This effect will only last 30sec and as soon as it wears off you will once again go back to the passive ability the orbs grant you - unless it was the third orb you used -.


Frost Elemental Orbs

When you learn to summon 3 Frost Orbs that will like the Fire orbs fly around your chest & head.
The frost orbs will grant you a passive buff giving you:

  • 5% less damage taken
  • 3% less chance to be critted by any Ability/Spell
  • 5% more chance to trigger frostbite
And when you absorb a orb you will for 30sec gain the following buffs:
  • 10% less damage taken
  • 5% less chance to be critted by any Ability/Spell
  • 10% more chance to trigger frostbite

Different from the 3 Fire orbs & Arcane Orbs these orbs can be stacked so there is no cooldown on these and they stack on each other. using all of the 3 orbs at the same time will grant you a extra boost increasing the effect of each orb.

So when you use all 3 of the orbs you will gain:

  • 25% less damage taken over 30 seconds
  • 15% less chance to be critted
  • 25% more chance that frostbite will trigger

Arcane Elemental Orbs

When you learn to summon 3 AArcane Orbs that will like the Fire/Frost orbs fly around your chest & head. The Arcane orbs will grant you a passive buff giving you:

  • 10% spell haste to all arcane spells
  • 30% more mana regen while casting

When consumin one of the arcane orbs you will be granted a buff boosting the effect of the passive buff by 2times:

  • 25% spell haste to all arcane spells
  • 50% more mana regen while casting
